All mobile phones can be tracked or bugged?

8 February 2009 No Comment

Hi everyone. I have heard that all mobile phones made after 2001 can be tracked and various kinds of surveillance can be done on them. Is this true?

Yes. Your phone can be tracked even if it is off through a process known as triangulation. Most people erroneously think that a phone has to be on to be tracked. This was true for older cell phones but the new ones have a special chip that will allow it to be tracked even if it is off.

If you have your cell phone on and are using it, your movements can be tracked by triangulating your signal off the cell towers that move your call around the network. Your call can also be listened in on either over the network, or through the direct interception of your phone's signal.  It is very hard to get around this.

If your phone has GPS capability, then your movements can be tracked in real time.

But who would care to track you? Unless you are on the FBI's most wanted list or the CIA is tracking you, it's highly unlikely that your phone is going to be tracked by anyone.

When the day come that everyone's movements are routinely being tracked, I'm joining whatever revolution stops it.

In the meantime, don't be paranoid.
