Spy Cam Immigration Scam

3 December 2008 No Comment

A man and woman who used spy gadgets to help people pass immigration tests have been jailed.

They used surveillance equipment to help their customers pass the exam on British life at Wimbledon Library, Kingston Crown Court heard on Tuesday.

Steven Lee and Rong Yang were seen acting suspiciously in a car outside the library on Wimbledon Hill Road.

When police challenged the pair they discovered lap tops and radio transmitters that the criminals were using to communicate with exam candidates.

People sitting the test were found to be wearing miniature cameras linked to the car. The court heard that Lee and Yang used these to read their exam papers, and would give candidates the correct answers via hidden earpieces.

The pair, both from Redhill, were sentenced to eight months in prison for three counts of facilitating a breach of immigration law.
