Was this legal?

7 April 2009 4 Comments

A joint task force placed surveillance equipment on my land without a warrant or court order. There are thermal imagers and some type of lasers.

The reason they did this is that my step brother is dealing drugs and he uses my address from time to time to throw the cops off. I've told him to stop doing that but we don't get a long and he keeps doing it.

So I just let them set up the equipment.

Well my brother told me that I didn't have to give the equipment back as it was my land that they set the surveillance equipment up on and without a court order or warrant I had the right to keep the equipment by refusing to give it back. Is he right?

No. When you gave your approval to use your property for the joint task force to set up their surveillance equipment on, you also gave your approval for them to get that equipment when they are done.

Also, how do you think you are going to stop a dozen guys with guns coming on your property to take back their equipment? Are you going to run around like a crazy donkey saying you can't take that, you can't take that. They are going to say, "Dude. Chill out. Are you on bi-polar meds? You gave us consent to use your property for our equipment and now you are freaking out. You need to back off right now else we're going to arrest you for obstruction."

Don't mess with a joint task force and don't listen to your brother. I can't stand people like your brother. They give all this advice about your legal rights and how you can screw the government. I bet your brother didn't offer to come to your house and to be the one that tells the joint task force they can't take back their equipment. Tell your brother to shove his stupid advice unless he wants to come over to your house and tell the joint task force they can't take back their equipment while you sit back in your arm chair and watch. That's what he's doing to you. Giving you stupid advice and then sitting back in his arm chair to watch what happens when you tell the joint task force they can't take back their equipment.

I think your brother has way too much time on his hands if he's got nothing better to do than to sit around on the Internet looking for ways to screw the joint task force.

Finally, who do you think paid for the surveillance equipment? Tax payers. I would much rather the joint task force have that equipment that I helped pay for, than you. Why do you think you somehow deserve to rip the tax payer off because you gave consent for the joint task force to put surveillance equipment on your property?
